The Disciples’ Apprentice

Since the news came in 1999 that I would be a father, increasingly as the birth day loomed, I began to soberly consider the responsibility that lay before me. Raise a modern day disciple of Jesus.

As a follower of Christ, I knew the responsibility that was expected of me; however, I was not prepared and mostly unsure, outside of scripture, where to find the real guidance I would need. After all, isn’t it important that I am prepared to show my son by example the ability that he is to master?

Represented here is the collection of thoughts and practices as I lead my son into and through what it means to be a disciple of Jesus, the saviour of his soul.

“…make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.“

About Richard, a Journeyman Disciple

Richard, is a devoted husband and father, working as a software consultant, and attempting to live life as a sold out disciple of Jesus. Richard, came to accept the claims of Christ while in college, as an atheist and skeptic, quitting school for a season to study the bible, wanting to learn more about the God to whom he had just surrendered his life.
Tutored at different times in his life by wiser, older men, serving as mentors they lead him into a deeper relationship with God, influencing greatly and positively his journey into manhood. It was these men, intersecting Richard's life at the right times that gave him the confidence to pursue God as a Father, trusting that He would influence his thoughts and correct his course as needed.
Participating in the worldwide body of Christ and local congregations, Richard is sharpened by the fellowship of believers, inspired and convicted by God's Holy Spirit, sanctified and strengthened by the provision of trials and as well as being primarily informed in His pursuit of God by the Judeo-Christian scripture.
Richard is greatly influenced in his walk by Isaiah 55:9-11.

…You Will Never Fall

For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.For in t his way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

About God’s Word

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
